Region Rendering with Maya

Region Rendering with Maya is a useful option to use when rendering large single frame images. This process has not yet been automated but can be done quickly and easily using the "Extra Parameters" Field when launching your job. Below is a quick example of how to split your frame into two seperate regions. Please note that this process will start seperate seperate render jobs for each region and you (the customer) will need some sort of image editing software to combine the regions into the final full size image...

Prep Work: Take note of what the final resolution is to be. For this example our final completed image will be 6000x6000px. Depending on the complexity of the image you will need to decide how many splits you want. For simplicity sake we will cut this image in half...

Image one will be 6000x3000 and image two will be 6000x3000px.

Launching the Renders:

Begin by launching the job in a normal fashion, to make things easier you may want to rename the job slightly adding in "Bottow_Half" or "Top_Half" to the render name. In the "Extra Parameters" section you will want to add this line:

-reg 0 6000 0 3000

This line tells Maya to only render the bottom half of the image. "6000 pixels from the bottom left and 3000 pixels up from the bottom"

Next we are going to run a second job for the upper portion of the image. This time change the "Extra Parameters" field to look like this:

-reg 0 6000 3000 6000

This tells Maya to start from absolute left (0pxs) and render to the top of the image 6000px, and 3000pxs from bottom to top of image.

Once both renders have completed, you can download the halves, and import them into Photoshop or any other image dditing software to combine them into one large image.

These parameters can be modified to render as many or as few regions as you would like, depending on the size and complexity of the image.
